MORPHOLOGY

GENERAL APPEARANCE: Low on the legs, strong, of sturdy construction, lively and active, giving the impression of substance and endurance in a contained volume.
IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS: The muzzle/skull ratio is 3 to 5.
BEHAVIOUR/TEMPERAMENT: Bold looking, hardworking. Extroverted and friendly, never nervous or aggressive.
HEAD: Fox-like in shape and appearance, with an alert and intelligent expression.
CRANIAL REGION:
Skull: Rather broad and flat between the ears.
Stop: Moderate.
MUZZLE REGION:
Truffle: Black.
Muzzle: Tapering slightly.
Jaws/Teeth: Jaws strong with a perfect, regular and complete scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaw.
Eyes: Well placed, round, medium sized, brown, in harmony with the coat colour.
Ears: Erect, medium sized, slightly rounded. The line drawn from the tip of the nose through the centre of the eye must, if extended, pass through or be tangent to the tip of the ear.
NECK: Rather long.
BODY: Medium length, not too short, tapering slightly when viewed from above.
Top line: Horizontal.
Chest: Broad and deep, well let down between the forelegs. Ribs well sprung.
TAIL: Short, preferably natural.
Cut: Short.
Undocked: Set on the continuation of the dorsal line. Carried naturally above the
topline when the dog is moving or alert.
FOREQUARTERS:
Shoulder: Well placed, forming a 90° angle with the arm.
Arm: Follows the line of the chest.
Elbow: Close to the sides of the body, neither loose nor too tight.
Forearm: Short and straight as possible. Good bone in the forelegs maintained down to the foot.
Forefeet: Oval, with strong, well arched and tight toes; the two central toes slightly ahead of the other two; pads strong and well arched. Nails short.
HINDQUARTERS:
General Appearance: Limbs strong and flexible. Legs short. Strong bone structure maintained down to the feet.
Knee: Well angulated.
Hocks: Straight when viewed from behind.
Hind feet: Oval, with strong, well arched and tight toes; the two central toes slightly ahead of the other two; pads strong and well arched. Nails short.
GAIT/MOVEMENT: Free and active, without relaxation or forcing. The forelegs have good reach without lifting too much from the ground, in unison with the drive of the hindquarters.
HAIR: Medium length, straight with thick undercoat, never soft, wavy or hard (wired).
COLOUR: Solid red, sable, fawn, black and tan, with or without white markings on the limbs, on the
chest and neck. A little white is permitted on the head and muzzle.
SIZE AND WEIGHT:
Ideal height at the withers: Approximately 25-30 cm.
Weight:
Males: 10-12 kg.
Females: 9-11 kg.
